Museum of the First Council
About museum
Today the museum is one of the most important monuments to the history of local self-government and the first Russian Revolution of 1905.
The museum is located in the historic Meshchanskaya Town Hall building, built in 1904 to a design by engineer Afanasyev. In May 1905 the meetings of the first all-city Soviet of Workers' Deputies in Russia were held here. In 1967 the building was transferred to the Regional Department of Culture and a museum dedicated to the Workers' Soviet was opened. In 1981 the museum's exhibitions were reorganized, and in the 1990s a permanent exhibition 'Man. Soul. Spirituality.' was on display. In 2005, marking the 100th anniversary of the first Russian Revolution, the museum was reopened. The restoration used materials from Burylin's collection, photographic materials and documents from the State Archive of the Ivanovo Region. Today the museum remains an important monument to the history of local self-government and the first Russian Revolution of 1905.
