The history of the Elabuga Institute began with the name of the merchant Stakheev, known for his philanthropy. In the late 19th – early 20th centuries in Elabuga, Hereditary Honorary Citizen Glafira Fedorovna Stakheeva built a building for the Diocesan School, which is now the site of the university.
