Municipal Museum of the Parabel District
About museum
The museum was founded in 1987 and for some time operated as a school museum. It features two sections – the region's nature and its history. In the historical section the remains of animals that lived here during the Ice Age are displayed – mammoths, bison, and woolly rhinoceroses. An exhibition titled 'Under the Native Roof' presents more than 500 exhibits that reflect the material and spiritual culture of the inhabitants of the Narym region. The museum also has a large collection of household items used in traditional peasant families. You can see the interior of a peasant izba (traditional log house) with an icon case, a stove, and other elements. In addition, the museum's collections hold information about political exiles and convicts, as well as the history of Dmitry Donskoy, one of the leaders of the Socialist-Revolutionary (SR) Party. On the museum grounds there is a two-story barn where peasant items are gathered, such as a chest for grain and flour, horse harness, tubs, and other miscellaneous household items.
