The Museum of the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945 "Memory" is located in the historic area of the city of Stavropol at the foot of Fortress Mountain. It was founded in 1990 by veterans of the Great Patriotic War and by participants of Vocational School No. 18 under the leadership of Vladimir Yakovlevich Serbinenko. In 2000 the "Memory" museum was granted the status of a municipal cultural institution. Its collection contains more than 6,000 exhibits reflecting the main milestones of the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War, including the names of notable combatants and items related to the residents of Stavropol. The museum is visited by about 18,000 people annually, and more than 640 tours and lectures are held there. The visitor audience is very diverse: veterans of the Great Patriotic War, schoolchildren, students, military personnel, guests and residents of the city and region.
