Mamadysh Local History Museum
About museum
The museum was founded in 1921 and was one of the first in small towns. It housed an extensive collection of local history and ethnographic exhibits and hosted events for visitors. However, in 1959 the museum was closed. In 1975 a historical and local history museum was opened in the House of Pioneers, founded by historian and World War II veteran Andronova Elizaveta Mikhailovna. In 1981 the building of merchant Zakharov's house was added to it. In 2011 the museum was renovated and the building area increased to 648 sq. m. Since 2015 the museum has operated with a new exhibition presenting the history of the Mamadysh region and town from ancient times to the present. Special attention is paid to halls dedicated to three wars, the Great Patriotic War, military glory and notable fellow countrymen. The museum has a lecture and exhibition hall. The museum's collections consist of 5,594 storage units, of which 3,505 are in the main collection and 2,089 in the scientific-auxiliary collection. Particularly valuable exhibits include a writing desk, mirror, gutter, towel and ethnographic items.
