V. I. Lenin Apartment Museum
About museum
The V. I. Ulyanov (Lenin) Museum was opened in April 1970 in the house where, from 1871 to 1875, the family of I. N. Ulyanov, inspector of public schools of the Simbirsk Governorate, rented an apartment from D. F. Zharkova. Lenin spent his early childhood here, and here in August 1874 his younger brother was born. On the first floor there is a documentary exhibition about the life of the Ulyanov family in the Simbirsk Governorate, and on the second floor the domestic interior of the 19th century has been recreated. The museum displays authentic items belonging to the Ulyanovs, as well as themed exhibitions by artists and photographers of Ulyanovsk. The library of Ulyanovsk local historian Zh. A. Trofimov also operates here. A visit to the museum allows visitors to feel the atmosphere of those years, get acquainted with Lenin's family and childhood, and learn about the everyday life of the democratic intelligentsia of Simbirsk in the 1870s–1880s.
