About museum
On November 14, 1969, a people's museum was opened in the village of Lavrentia following a decision of the bureau of the Chukotka District Committee of the CPSU. In 1994 a branch of the Chukotka Regional Local History Museum was opened, and in 1996 the museum was allocated new premises in a five-story building. The museum features various halls: the "Archaeology and Ethnography" hall, the "Nature of Chukotka: Animals" hall, the "Nature of Chukotka: Birds" hall, information stands "History of the founding of the village of Lavrentia", "Edible Plants of Chukotka", "Mosses and Lichens of Chukotka", "Daytime Butterflies in the vicinity of the village of Lavrentia", "Minerals and Mineral Resources of the Chukotsky District", as well as a book exhibition "Chukotka in Books". This place has become a true monument to the history and culture of the Chukotsky District.
