L.N. Pavlova-Koshman Local History Museum
About museum
The museum is the keeper of authentic evidence of the past, an indispensable guide to the world of history and culture. It was founded in 1995 on the 50th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War.
In 2013 the local history museum was given the name of Honored Artist of the RSFSR Lyudmila Nikiforovna Pavlova-Koshman (now deceased). The artist was born in 1925. After finishing school she went to apply to the Odessa State Art College, which she graduated from in 1949. Lyudmila Nikiforovna devoted her life to her beloved craft — painting porcelain and faience.
Over the course of 26 years the museum's exhibitions were collected piece by piece, featuring antique items of Cossack daily life from the mid-18th to the early 19th century: chests, spinning wheels, kerosene lamps, woven baskets, wooden and clay tableware, blacksmith and tin items (horseshoes, baby cradles, shashkas, a collection of samovars and irons), clothing and footwear (antique women's and men's Cossack costumes, headscarves, boots, shoes), and decorative and applied arts (embroidery, tapestries).
The lower exhibition hall is dedicated to the soldiers of the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945 and to internationalist soldiers: histories, records, family relics, letters, personal belongings and combat equipment of front-line soldiers. The number of items in the collections is constantly increasing.
The museum holds local history lessons, video screenings, tours, search-and-research activities, and creative workshops.
