Aleksin Art and Local History Museum

Aleksin Art and Local History Museum was founded in 1974, and its first visitors came in December 1980. It is located in the historic part of the town, in a three-story building of the former city estate of the Maslov merchants, an architectural monument of the mature Classicism period. Since 1995 the building has been included in the list of objects of historical and cultural heritage of federal significance. The museum holds more than 22,000 storage units in the main and research-supporting collections, including archaeological, numismatic, paleontological, and geological collections. The museum also presents a collection of paintings, graphics, sculpture, decorative and applied arts, ethnographic and household items, as well as memorial collections dedicated to outstanding figures of the region. The exhibition consists of 13 permanent and 5 temporary halls. In the natural history department you can learn about the paleontological past, geological structure, mineral resources, water resources, flora and fauna of the Aleksin district.
