About museum
The Aleksin Art and Local History Museum was founded in 1974, and its first visitors came in December 1980. It is located in the historic part of the town, in a three-storey building of the former town estate of the Maslov merchants, an architectural monument of the mature classicism period. Since 1995 the building has been included in the list of objects of historical and cultural heritage of federal significance. The museum holds more than 22,000 storage items in its main and scientific-auxiliary collections, including archaeological, numismatic, paleontological and geological collections. The museum also presents collections of painting, graphics, sculpture, decorative and applied arts, ethnographic and everyday items, as well as memorial collections dedicated to prominent figures of the region. The exhibition consists of 13 permanent and 5 temporary halls. The natural history department presents the paleontological past, the geological structure, mineral resources, water resources, and the flora and fauna of the Aleksin district.
