Husein Isaev Local History Museum
About museum
The Husein Isaev Local History Museum is located within the ancient castle complex of Phakoch, dated to the 11th–15th centuries. The route here runs through the Argun Gorge, and, traveling along the narrow winding road, visitors can enjoy the astonishing beauty of the pristine nature.
According to legend, Phakoch appeared thanks to the glorious hero Iton. Traveling in the mountains, he stopped to rest at this very spot, and when he woke up he saw that a swallow had built a nest on his sword and a spider had spun a silver web. Iton took this as a good omen and decided to build a settlement on this site, which is now called Itum-Kali. The Phakoch castle complex consists of several defensive and residential towers, a water mill, and a mosque.
The local history museum (housed in one of the residential towers) has several sections. On the first floor, antique weapons, jewelry, tools, and household items over a hundred years old are on display. Visitors can even try on traditional clothing.
