Biryusinsk Local History Museum
About museum
In 1965 the children's expedition "Orlyonok", led by Anna Vasilievna Melnikova, brought interesting exhibits from the epicenter of the Tunguska meteorite explosion. This prompted her and Konstantin Dmitrievich Yankovsky to the idea of creating a museum. In October 1967, by order of the Taishet City Department of Culture, the museum was officially opened at the children's library in the city of Biryusinsk. Six years later, on November 18, 1974, by decision of the Biryusinsk City Executive Committee it was established as a community-run museum. In 1980 the museum was moved to a new building, and on March 2, 2000 it was granted the status of a local history museum. Since 2006 the administration of Taishet District has been the museum's founder, and the rights and obligations of the founder are exercised by the Department of Culture, Sports and Youth Policy of the Administration of Taishet District. Today the museum's collection comprises more than 15,000 exhibits.
