A.I. Kurnakov Art Gallery (People's Artist of the USSR)

The gallery was opened in 2006. It is located in an unusually picturesque part of the city: the high bank of the Orlik River and the historic streets of Oryol provide a fitting setting for the painting collection of Andrey Ilyich Kurnakov. Currently, the gallery displays more than 100 works by the artist, representing his art from the mid-1940s onward.

\r\nThe A.I. Kurnakov Art Gallery was founded in February 2005 and opened to visitors on May 4, 2006. The three-storey building was constructed in 2005 according to a design by A.N. Blagoveshchensky, chief engineer of OAO "Orelagropromproekt". The gallery's total area is 734.5 sq. m. The exhibition area is 641.2 sq. m. The storage area is 18 sq. m.

\r\nThe gallery exhibits a collection of works by People's Artist of the USSR, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, laureate of the I.E. Repin Prize, honorary citizen of Oryol, World War II veteran, and professor at Oryol State University, Andrey Ilyich Kurnakov (1916–2010). The collection includes works created over a period of more than 60 years, from the mid-1940s to 2010.
