On May 21, 1990, at the initiative of the bureau of the Sosnogorsk District Executive Committee, the Historical and Local Lore Memorial Museum was opened. In 1996 it was registered in the All-Russian Register of Museums. The museum's collection comprises 11,560 storage units of the main fund and 3,014 storage units of the scientific and auxiliary fund. The museum presents the key moments of the district's history, modern history, socio-political, economic and cultural life of the town and district across 18 collections. These include ethnography, numismatics, early printed books, archaeological excavations, photographic documents, household items and others. The museum is located in the "Horizont" House of Culture. Exhibition halls and the storage depository are on the first floor. Visiting the museum offers new knowledge and valuable impressions.
