Historical, Architectural and Natural Museum-Reserve 'Levashov Estate'
About museum
A few kilometers from Voskresensk, beyond the village of Galibikha, the manor park begins. At its edge stand 19th-century terem houses that belonged to the wealthy landowners of Makaryevsky Uyezd — the Levashovs. Their house on Novaya Basmannaya in Moscow hosted meetings of the Decembrists and notable figures such as Alexander Pushkin and Anton Delvig. Pyotr Chaadayev considered the mistress of the house one of the most intelligent and educated women, with a large kind heart. The history of the estate near Galibikha has deeper roots: the lands were given to them by Ivan Vasilyevich the Terrible in gratitude for his wife Marfa Sobakina. One of the descendants of this family became the prototype for Gogol's Sobakevich. When visiting the unique park on the banks of the Vetluga, where the stately wooden manor is located, you can meet its caretakers and learn many interesting facts about its history, construction, and the creation of the park.
