About museum
The Art Museum offers visitors unique collections that never leave them indifferent. The collection of Russian painting was formed in the 1920s–1930s thanks to acquisitions from the State Museum and the central museums of Moscow and St. Petersburg. The museum presents monuments of Orthodox art, icons, cast metalwork, enamels, liturgical embroidery, manuscripts and old books, works by well-known Russian artists, furniture, artistic porcelain, glass, and bronzes from the famous bronze collection of S. S. Abamelek-Lazarev. The museum also displays a collection of mechanical musical instruments, including a polyphon cabinet. In the Blue Drawing Room scientific conferences, musical, poetry and creative evenings, as well as presentations of books and art booklets, are held. A small contemporary art gallery features works by artists from various cities, regardless of style or manner of painting.
