The A.S. Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts. Department of Private Collections
About museum
The Department of Private Collections exhibition presents more than thirty collections donated by benefactors since the 1980s. The museum's contemporary holdings comprise over seven thousand works of Russian and Western European art from the 15th–20th centuries, including painting, works on paper, sculpture, decorative arts and photography. The collections vary in focus and structure and may be monographic or thematic. When private collections are acquired by the museum they are broken up and individual works of art are allocated among several funds. The department's display features the finest works without compromising the integrity of the collections and seeks to emphasize the original intent of their creators. Special attention is paid to each collector's personality and personal preferences.
