A. V. Suvorov State Memorial Museum
About museum
In 1904, by order of Emperor Nicholas II, the first memorial museum building in Russia was opened. It was built to a design by A. I. Gogen with funds raised by the public. In 1951 the museum was damaged as a result of the blockade and reopened with the status of a military-historical museum. In 1998 a ten-year reconstruction of the building was completed and the museum's original memorial status was restored. The museum houses the personal belongings of the great commander, household items, weapons, numismatics, paintings, graphics, books, military uniforms and other exhibits. The museum's collections contain more than 100,000 items, including authentic belongings, weapons and awards, banners, books, portraits, icons and other objects. In the country's first State Museum of the Tin Soldier, located next to the main building, more than 4,000 exhibits are displayed.
