Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin. "The Explanation", Study for the Painting "Spring in the Village", 1929
Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin made the watercolour "The Explanation" in 1929 as a study for the painting "Spring in the Village". Preparatory sheets of this kind show how the artist searched for the composition of a future canvas.
Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin (1878–1939), was born in Khvalynsk and died in Leningrad. He organised the space of his pictures on the principle of "spherical", or "inclined", perspective, and his theory of the "science of seeing" had taken shape by 1917.
The sheet is executed in watercolour on paper.
