About museum
On May 5, 1986 the Gorshechensky Local History Museum was opened; in 1992 it received the title "People's", and in 2006 it became a branch of the Kursk Regional Local History Museum. The museum holds almost 3,000 storage units and its exhibition area is 238 sq. m. It presents the history of the Gorshechensky land from the late 18th century to the present, as well as works by famous locals such as composer and violinist M. G. Erdenko, sculptor I. A. Minin, and poet L. G. Nalivayko. In the district there is a section of the Central Chernozem Reserve named after V. V. Alekhin — Barkalovka, where some species of wild plants listed in the Red Book of the Kursk Region can be found (for example, mezereon/Daphne mezereum, the Podolian shivereckia, ephedra, etc.). Approximately 5,000 people visit the museum each year.
