Main building of the Pskov Museum-Reserve
About museum
Pskov United Museum-Reserve is one of the oldest museums in Russia, founded in 1876 by local historians. Even during the revolution and the war the museum remained open to visitors. The first floor displays exhibits illustrating the culture and art of ancient Pskov, including items from the famous 17th-century chambers that belonged to S.I. Pogankin. The main history of Pskov and the Pskov region is presented in three halls. Icon painting, fine silverwork, Neolithic archaeological artifacts, pottery, lamps and other objects represent the diversity of life of Pskov’s ancient inhabitants. The second floor presents the history of the Pskov region from 1941 to 1945. The exhibits are authentic wartime items: Russian and German weapons, documents and money from the occupation period, and the history of partisans and “people’s avengers.” Also on display are the field surgical cart “Beda” and the diorama “Crossing the Velikaya River on July 23, 1944.”
