Galich Local History Museum
About museum
The idea of creating a museum in Galich emerged after the October Revolution. Local historians began collecting exhibits for the museum long before its opening. Ivan Vasilievich Yablokov was particularly active; he visited ruined estates, churches, and monasteries, collecting books, documents, weapons, furniture, and portraits. On March 12, 1922 the museum was officially opened. The collection building continued, and on October 15 a library was organized which contained about 2,500 volumes. As the museum developed, various departments were created: city history, art, historical-domestic, ethnographic, Old Russian art, natural history, prehistoric, historical-revolutionary, and industrial-economic. Thus the museum in Galich was founded and began to serve the people and history.
