About museum
One of the largest museums in the Komi-Permyak Okrug was founded in 1959. The museum's collection contains more than 11,000 inventory items, including a documentary archive, an ethnographic collection, and a collection of Old Russian art. Special attention is paid to the icon painting collection, which includes icons of the Stroganov school (more than 40 items) and icons from the St. Nicholas Church in the village of Monastyr. The museum also displays works of the Perm animal style, woven belts, and a collection of bells. Exhibitions introduce visitors to the history of the Gainsky land, the natural wealth of the northern forests, and notable events of the region. The museum is also creating a park of wooden sculptures "Heroes of the Komi-Permyak Epic", featuring legendary heroes considered the progenitors of the Komi-Permyaks: Kudym-Oshem, Mizey, Pera the bogatyr, and others. The museum hosts creative meetings, master classes on making items from birch bark, paper and other materials, as well as celebrations of the traditional folk calendar.
