House on the Embankment
About museum
On November 12, 1989, in the building that became the hero of Yuri Trifonov's novella 'The House on the Embankment', a unique museum was opened at the initiative of the residents — one of the few in the world dedicated to the history of the building. The museum displays household items from the living rooms of Soviet leaders and the Soviet intelligentsia in the 1930s–1950s. The exhibition tells about life in the country during those years, as well as the fates of the people who lived in the 'House on the Embankment': government officials, scientists, writers, military commanders, participants in the Great Patriotic War, many of whom were repressed. The museum has preserved original furniture created from sketches by the building's architect B. M. Iofan and manufactured in the basement workshops of the 'House on the Embankment'. The museum is a unique place where one can learn about the lives of people in the USSR during those years and feel the history of the building.
