House-Museum of Muhammad-Tahir al-Karakhi
About museum
In the village of Tsulda in the Charodinsky District of Dagestan every corner and house reflects the era of the Caucasian War, and the main monument of this village is the House-Museum of Muhammad-Tahir al-Karakhi, a renowned scholar, poet, encyclopedist, historian-chronographer and expert in the Arabic language. It is a branch of the National Museum of Dagestan named after A. Taho-Godi. Descendants of this outstanding Dagestani have preserved the original interior of the house. Here you can see the Arabist scholar's armchair in which he wrote his works, as well as a saber — a personal gift from Imam Shamil. The museum's chief treasure is the scholar's library, which contains 180 books written by him and other authors. The museum preserves the room where Muhammad-Tahir al-Karakhi meditated, and his main historical work 'The Brilliance of Dagestani Sabers in Some of Shamil's Battles' was passed down from hand to hand and exists in many copies in different countries. The museum also displays a collection of ancient exhibits — household items and everyday objects of a traditional mountain home. Opened in 2009.
