House-Museum of Emelyan Yaroslavsky

About museum

In 1912, in the courtyard of the new library and museum building, the House-Museum of Emelyan Yaroslavsky was built to house employees of the Yakut Regional Museum and the Public Library. In 1915–1917, during the Yakut exile, the curator of the Yakut Regional Museum and prominent revolutionary Emelyan Yaroslavsky lived in this house. He did much to improve and renew the museum's exhibitions, organized an expedition to collect exhibits, wrote a number of scholarly notes, and illegal revolutionary circles held meetings within its walls. In 1960, by decree of the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR, the House-Museum was designated a cultural heritage site of federal significance and transferred to the territory of the Yakut Republican Museum of Local Lore named after E.M. Yaroslavsky. In 1968 the museum was opened to visitors, and in 2015, after restoration, the House-Museum of E.M. Yaroslavsky was reopened. The exhibition tells the story of the creation and development of the Yakut museum from 1891 to the 1980s and is dedicated to the life and work of E.M. Yaroslavsky.
