Merchant Anisimov's House
About museum
In 1902 Ilya Anisimovich Anisimov, a resident of the town of Izborsk, built a stone house. It was intended for residential use, but part of it was used for commercial purposes. Today the house contains the exhibition "Chronicle of the Ancient Town of Izborsk: From the Origins of Russia to the Battle of Poltava," which provides a detailed account of the town's history from the arrival of the Krivichs to these lands. The exhibition features items from the archaeological collection of the museum-reserve, documentary and research materials, illustrative materials, modern multimedia resources, and authentic objects more than a thousand years old. The exhibition presents the town's development, its fortifications, the everyday life of medieval Izborsk inhabitants, defensive and offensive weaponry, the equipment of rider and horse, knights of the Teutonic and Livonian Orders, and the Polish warrior.
