House of the Decembrist M. I. Muravyov-Apostol
About museum
The historical and memorial museum in the Tyumen Region with a Decembrist theme is unique. The museum's main exhibit is a house from 1795 in which the exiled Decembrist, nobleman, hero of the Patriotic War of 1812, retired lieutenant colonel M. I. Muravyov-Apostol lived for twenty years. In 1836 he arrived in Yalutorovsk with his wife Maria Konstantinovna and settled in the house of townsman E. P. Belousov, later becoming the owner himself. A deed was found in the Tyumen State Archive proving that the house belonged to a 'state criminal'. The house-museum also preserves a letter from M. I. Muravyov-Apostol dated August 18, 1849. The house contains three memorial rooms: a hall, the owner's study, and a parlor. The hall displays portraits of all the Decembrists of the Yalutorovsk colony.
