About museum
On February 21, 2019, the administration of the municipal formation of the urban district 'Dolinsky' of Sakhalin Oblast of the Russian Federation adopted a resolution to establish the municipal budgetary cultural institution 'Dolinsky Historical and Local History Museum'. Two years before the opening, which took place on September 11, 2021 in the town of Dolinsk, museum staff accepted items of museum significance from district residents and prepared the concept for the permanent exhibition. The museum currently operates nine thematic complexes: the geological past of the Dolinsky district; archaeology; Sakhalin Ainu; discoveries and research of Sakhalin in the 19th–20th centuries; Russian settlements on the island in the mid-19th and early 20th centuries; the Russo-Japanese War of 1904–1905; the Karafuto period, Otiay Prefecture, the final stage of World War II — the liberation of South Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands; the district's economy in the Soviet period; education, culture, healthcare, and sports. Interactive screens with thematic video and photo materials are installed in the museum.
