Central Naval Museum, Kronstadt Fortress Branch

About museum

The Nikolayev Naval Cathedral was built in 1903–1913 to a design by V. A. Kosyakov. In May 1980, in the presence of members of the imperial family, the "Kronstadt Fortress" museum — a branch of the Central Naval Museum — was opened. Naval guns, paintings, sculptures, photographs, personal belongings of famous Russian sailors and other items were exhibited here over an area of 900 sq. m. In 1995 the Nikolayev Naval Cathedral was granted the status of a federal architectural monument. In 2009, due to the start of restoration work, the museum suspended admission of visitors, but from 7 July 2013 the cathedral was reopened to visitors.
