Chaplygin Local History Museum

About museum

The museum is located in a building called the 'Menshikov House', which was built in the late 17th – early 18th century and is of federal significance. The museum's collections include more than 12,000 items, organized by classification codes. The museum presents various exhibitions, ranging from the 'History of the Oranienburg Fortress' to the 'History of Ranenburg (Chaplygin) in the 20th century'. The museum also has an exhibition hall featuring thematic and commemorative exhibitions from the museum's and private collections, as well as art exhibitions. The museum tells about the founding, construction and role of the fortress in the history of Ranenburg (Chaplygin), as well as about notable locals from the region.
