Breytovsky Historical and Local Lore Museum
About museum
On November 6, 1962, the Breytovsky Historical and Local Lore Museum was opened as one of the first people's museums operating on a voluntary basis. The museum's founders were local historians and veterans of the Great Patriotic War: B. P. Komarov, N. I. Serov, and others. The first exhibition reflected the revolutionary events of 1917–1918, the establishment of Soviet power in the Breytovskaya volost, the creation of the Breytov Republic, and the participation of Breytovo residents in the Civil War. For many years the museum moved from one premises to another, was periodically closed, suffered fires, and was forgotten. In 1993 the museum in the village of Breytovo was revived thanks to the efforts of A. A. Shmagina, head of the Department of Culture, Youth, Physical Culture and Sports of the Administration of Breytovsky Municipal District, and T. L. Lovchikova, instructor of the art department of the Breytovo Children's School of Arts. On June 1, 1998, by decree of the head of Breytovsky Municipal District S. I. Karabitsky, the museum was granted official status and the name Breytovsky Historical and Local Lore Museum.
