Bryansk Museum of the History of Photography
About museum
The Bryansk Museum of the History of Photography is a private institution that permanently displays an extensive collection of photographic equipment from the 19th–20th centuries. However, the main holdings are not only cameras but also early photographic processes and technologies that have been restored and studied by the museum’s staff. During group interactive lectures, demonstrations are given of shooting using the 1851 technique and other photographic processes of the 19th–20th centuries. Each of the early techniques is connected with specific historical events, cultural eras, and notable personalities. The subject of the history of photography is much broader than just the technical process of recording an image; it is a story about a movement that permeates life from its invention to the present day. Among the interactive lectures are a lecture on the history of photography, the lecture “The Unknown Capital of Photography,” dedicated to Mount Athos (the Holy Mountain), and the lecture “The Color of the Nation,” which examines the invention of the color-separation method by Sergey Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorsky.
