Borzinsky District Local History Museum
About museum
In 1976 the Borzinsky Local History Museum was opened, established by a decision of the executive committee of the district Council of Workers' Deputies. It presented the historical picture of the southeast of the Trans-Baikal Territory, as well as the history of the local peoples, their customs and traditions. In 1984 the museum was awarded the title of 'People's Museum'. In 1999 local authorities decided to move to the old building on Pushkin Street, where the museum remains to this day. Many exhibits were lost during the move. In 2002 the museum was relocated to another building that was constructed at the beginning of the 20th century. Since 2000 restoration work has been carried out in the museum building, resulting in the opening of the Nature Hall, the Local History Hall, and an art gallery. In 2006 exhibitions by Trans-Baikal artists were held in the art gallery. Today the museum's staff consists of two employees — the director and a caretaker. The museum hosts mass events and exhibitions and works with its collections.
