The painting "Sharpening the Scythe" was painted by Mikhail Alekseevich Vladykin in 1917. The painting depicts a genre scene: a man is sitting on a bench on the grass by a log wall. He has a graying beard, is wearing a brown jacket, trousers, a white shirt, a dark blue cap on his head, and black sneakers on his feet. A man straightens a scythe with a hammer on a block of wood. There are inscriptions on the back of the painting, and on the bottom left is the author's signature in graphite pencil with the date written in black pencil.
