The sketch for the painting "History Lesson" is a waist portrait of a boy. The child's head is slightly raised up, the face is shown in a three-quarter turn to the right. The work is done on paper with colored pencil. On the back, at the bottom left, it is signed with a blue ballpoint pen: "S. G. Nevelstein. A study for the "History Lesson" of 1962-64."
