Archbishop's House
About museum
In the Tobolsk Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve there is the Archbishop's House, where in 2014 the museum project "The History of Orthodoxy in Siberia" was launched. The Tobolsk diocese was founded in 1620, and the house that served as the highest ecclesiastical residence was built in 1775. In the 20th century it was used for other purposes, but it now contains the metropolitan's office, the chancery, the archondary (house steward's room) and a hall for meetings with clergy and guests. The building is also used for sacred music concerts. The exhibition complex presents the history of Orthodoxy from the arrival of Yermak's detachment to the present day, as well as the missionary activities of Metropolitans Ioann and Feodor. The opening of the Archbishop's House became an important milestone in the development of tourism in the Tyumen Region, since this project serves as a starting point for exploring the holy places of the Trans-Urals.
