About museum
Tatar Hillfort is the largest archaeological monument of the Pre-Caucasus region, located in the vicinity of Stavropol. The remains of fortifications and cultural structures, road systems, burial grounds and cult buildings that were part of the Great Silk Road have been preserved here. The settlement was active through four historical periods: the Koban, Scythian, Sarmatian and Khazar. Here you can see numerous archaeological sites, cliffs, grottoes, picturesque rocks, springs, waterfalls and remarkable plants. The view from the observation platforms of Mounts Strizhament and Nedremannaya and the Caucasus Range is strikingly beautiful. Archaeological excavations are carried out in the museum-reserve, and walking and bus tours are offered. It is an unforgettable journey into the past that allows you to trace all aspects of ancient people’s lives from the 8th century BC to the 10th century AD.
