About museum
Tatar Hillfort is the largest archaeological monument of the North Caucasus, located in the vicinity of the city of Stavropol. The remains of fortification and cultural structures, road systems, burial grounds and cult buildings that were part of the Great Silk Road have been preserved here. The settlement was active through four historical periods: the Koban, Scythian, Sarmatian and Khazar periods. Here you can see numerous archaeological sites, cliffs, grottos, picturesque rocks, springs, waterfalls and remarkable plants. The view from the observation platforms to the Strizhament and Nedremannaya mountains and the Caucasus Range is breathtaking. At the museum-reserve archaeological excavations are carried out and walking and bus tours are offered. It is an unforgettable journey into the past that allows you to trace all aspects of ancient life from the 8th century BCE to the 10th century CE.
