Andropovsky District Local History Museum
About museum
From 1977 to 1992 there were several attempts to establish a museum, and on April 1, 1992 the decree of the head of administration of Andropovsky District No. 191 "On the state registration of the Andropovsky District Local History Museum" was adopted. It practically all began from scratch. Vladimir Ivanovich Sinanov, the museum's first director, played a special role in collecting exhibits; he laid the foundation of the material collection, which today numbers 7,555 storage units. The Andropovsky Museum became one of the cultural centers of Andropovsky District. In the permanent exhibitions visitors can learn about the history, cultural life, geography, flora and fauna of the district. The museum regularly holds exhibitions of artists' works, events dedicated to significant dates in the history of Russia and Andropovsky District, tours and museum lessons for schoolchildren, youth meetings with veterans, etc. The museum building is located in a park in the village of Kursavki, in the former estate of second-guild merchant Kalina Petrovich Lyashenko.
