Andropovsky District Local History Museum
About museum
From 1977 to 1992 there were several attempts to establish a museum, and on April 1, 1992 the head of the Andropovsky District administration adopted Decree No. 191 "On the state registration of the Andropovsky District Local History Museum." It all practically started from scratch. Vladimir Ivanovich Sinanov, the museum's first director, played a special role in collecting exhibits; he laid the foundation of the material collection, which today contains 7,555 storage units. The Andropovsky Museum became one of the cultural centers of Andropovsky District. In the permanent exhibitions visitors can learn about the district's history, cultural life, geography, flora and fauna. The museum regularly hosts exhibitions of artists' works, events dedicated to significant dates in the history of Russia and Andropovsky District, guided tours and museum classes for schoolchildren, youth meetings with veterans, and so on. The museum building is located in a park in the village of Kursavki, in the former estate of second-guild merchant Kalina Petrovich Lyashenko.
