Anabar Local History and Ethnographic Museum
About museum
The museum of the Anabar National Ulus was opened in 1999 and was initially located in the old primary school building. In 2005 it moved to new premises on the third floor of the Cultural Center with an area of 295 sq. m. Three objects of the ethnographic center 'Chuoraa' were attached to the museum: an urasa (tordok), a yurt (kholoma) and a winter urasa — babaryna. The museum collection consists of 3,079 items, including fishing and hunting implements, reindeer harness items, means of transportation, clothing, a photographic documentary collection, and stuffed birds and animals, including rare specimens such as the polar bear and the walrus. The exhibition consists of three sections: 'Agriculture', 'Industry' and 'Ethnography'. The first section tells the history of the Anabar ulus, while the second presents information on the development of placer diamond deposits. The third section is devoted to the nomadic peoples of the ulus — the Dolgans and the Evens — their dwellings, their traditional occupation of reindeer herding, clothing, and tableware.
