Altai District Local History Museum
About museum
The Altai District Local History Museum is located in an architectural monument building, the 'Forester's House', which is over one hundred years old. It is a true people's museum, since residents of the district donated materials for it free of charge. The museum's creation began with a collection assembled by amateur enthusiasts; later Evdokia Andreevna Tarasova and Vitaly Yakovlevich Krechetov — a history teacher — became involved and conducted research in the State Archive of Altai Krai. Today the museum has 8,400 exhibits arranged across 10 halls. It is part of the Small and Large Golden Ring of Altai Krai and the transboundary tourist route 'The Great Silk Road', so the number of visitors grows year by year.
