From February 3, 2024, the exhibition “Not Without Reason All Russia Remembers”, on the 210th anniversary of Mikhail Lermontov, opened at the Borodino Battle Museum‑Panorama. \r\n\r\nFor most Russians, the first encounter with the Patriotic War of 1812 begins with Lermontov’s “Borodino.” The poem was written in 1837, on the 25th anniversary of the Battle of Borodino. According to literary critic Vissarion Belinsky, it “is distinguished by simplicity and artlessness: in every word you hear a soldier, whose language, while remaining roughly naive, is at the same time noble, strong and full of poetry.” \r\n\r\nIn the second half of the 20th century, Mikhail Lermontov’s “Borodino” was repeatedly published separately as book editions with illustrations by well‑known Soviet graphic artists. Usually the illustrations accompanied almost every stanza of the poem. \r\n\r\nThe exhibition presents illustrations to “Borodino” worked on in the 1960s–1970s by artists Ivan Arkhipov, Pyotr Koretsky, Pavel Bunin and Vladimir Koltunov.

On the 200th anniversary of the Patriotic War of 1812, craftsmen of the Imperial Porcelain Factory in St. Petersburg produced a series of porcelain plates decorated with lines from the poem “Borodino.” As one of the popular works of national literature, Lermontov’s “Borodino” has entered domestic culture and everyday life in a wide variety of forms. \r\n\r\nThe exhibition is open until October 31, 2024 \r\nAge category: 12+
