About museum
Sergei Mironovich Kirov was a Russian revolutionary and a Soviet state and political figure. Sergei Mironovich Kirov (born Kostrikov) was born in Urzhum. In 1904 he became a member of the Tomsk committee of the RSDLP; in 1906 he was arrested for organizing an illegal printing press. After his release he moved to Vladikavkaz, where, under the pseudonym S. Kirov, he worked as a journalist for the newspaper "Terek" and continued his political activity.
During the Civil War he took an active part in the fight against the White Guards. He organized the defense of Astrakhan, ensured the supply of fuel from Baku, carried out diplomatic missions, and contributed to the establishment of Soviet power in the Caucasus. His work in this period included membership in the Revolutionary Military Council of the 11th Red Army (1919) and later serving as secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan (1921–1926), where he led the restoration of the economy and the development of the republic's social sphere.
Kirov's subsequent career was connected with Leningrad. In January 1926 he was appointed first secretary of the North-West Bureau of the Central Committee of the VKP(b), and then first secretary of the Leningrad provincial committee of the VKP(b). He carried out large-scale work on the industrialization of the region and the reconstruction of municipal services. His life was tragically cut short on 1 December 1934 when he was assassinated in the Smolny. The urn containing Sergei Mironovich Kirov's ashes rests in the Kremlin Wall in Moscow.
