Exhibitions at the Kandalaksha City History Museum
About exhibition
The Kandalaksha City History Museum was founded as a people's museum in 1971 at the initiative of the town's residents led by Ivan Fedorovich Stepanov, who became its first director. In 1974 the people's museum became part of the Murmansk Regional Museum of Local Lore and received a new status: the Department of Kandalaksha City History. The first head of the department was Lyudmila Vladimirovna Dubrovskaya. In January 2000 the Regional Museum of Local Lore transferred the Department of Kandalaksha City History to the city administration. From that time a new period in the institution's activities began. The museum has permanent exhibitions: "Trades and Everyday Life of the Pomors", which presents household items from the 19th–20th centuries, clothing, and fishing and hunting gear; and "Military Operations on the Kandalaksha Front", which reflects the region's military history during the Great Patriotic War (World War II). The museum's exhibition halls host thematic exhibitions.
