Exhibitions 'Post in Aksay' and 'Cossack House'
About exhibition
The old Cossack stanitsa of Aksayskaya is located in a favorable spot. In the 19th century a convenient ford and bridge were built here, which for a long time faithfully served the important postal route to the Caucasus. For that reason Aksay was visited in transit by prominent and notable figures of the Russian Empire, and a postal station in Aksay received travelers. The museum complex '19th-Century Postal Station' presents two permanent exhibitions, 'Cossack House' and 'Post in Aksay', as well as temporary exhibitions. The permanent exhibitions tell the history of the postal service on the Don, the service of the Don Cossacks, the system of postal stations along postal routes, the way of life and the specifics of household management and child-rearing on the Don. At the exhibitions you can see authentic travel-related household items, 19th-century furniture and utensils, tableware and more. A highlight of the complex is the collection of horse-drawn vehicles: proletki, phaetons, a tachanka and sledges.
