Exhibition at the Exposition and Exhibition Complex "Museum of House Paintings of Povazhye"
About exhibition
The Museum of House Paintings of Povazhye, the only one in the Arkhangelsk Region, was created on the basis of a traditional peasant homestead house built more than 136 years ago and painted by the well-known Vaga painters, the Petrovskys, from the village of Churkovskaya. This unique monument is known far beyond the Velsk district as the house with unicorns and lions. Strolling through the painted house, visitors can learn about the history of its preservation, the layout of a traditional northern peasant house, and the purpose and use of the items, objects, and structural details presented in the interior and exterior of the izba (traditional wooden peasant house). And, of course, they can admire the unique house paintings, learn about their protective (amuletic) significance, and about the origin and spread of the paintings in Povazhye.
