Permanent Exhibition of the South Ural Historical Museum
About exhibition
A permanent local-history exhibition is displayed in three halls of the South Ural Historical Museum. It covers not only the formation of the Ural Mountains and the giant fossil creatures that once lived there, but also the contemporary natural diversity of the Chelyabinsk Region. Visitors can also explore the material and cultural heritage of the ancient South Uralians — from the inhabitants of the legendary Arkaim to indigenous peoples (Bashkirs, Tatars, Kazakhs, Nagaybaks, etc.). The main exhibition is anchored by a central exhibit — the largest fragment of the Chelyabinsk meteorite. Display cases also contain archaeological finds from Arkaim, fossilized mollusks, mosasaur bones, and a reconstruction of a woolly rhinoceros. In the 20th-century hall, visitors are greeted by recreated early-20th-century Chelyabinsk shop displays and a railway clerk's office. See the link for details.
