Main exhibition of the Military Medical Museum

The Military Medical Museum is the only federal-level medical museum in Russia. The main exhibition consists of 15 halls and exhibition spaces where you can learn how diseases and wounds were treated in ancient Rus', how the emergence of new types of weapons influenced the development of military medicine, and what medical discoveries were made in the 19th–20th centuries. You can see surgical instruments from different eras, items of military doctors' uniforms, interesting documents and valuable medical devices (for example, a unique early 20th-century X-ray apparatus). You will learn about the contributions of outstanding scientists (I. V. Buyalsky, S. P. Botkin, G. I. Turner, I. P. Pavlov and many others) to the development of science. In the Museum of Nikolai Ivanovich Pirogov exhibition you will understand why Pirogov is called a genius of Russian medicine. A separate hall is devoted to medicine during the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945 and to the selfless work of military medical personnel, thanks to which 17 million soldiers and officers were returned to duty during the war. The Museum of Medicine of Armed Conflicts presents materials on the specifics of providing medical care to servicemen of the Russian Federation during armed conflicts of the second half of the 20th and the 21st centuries.
