The scientific library is located in the restored building of the Main (Hospital) Corps of the Tobolsk Prison Castle, an architectural monument of the mid-19th century. Its unique interior was recreated from photographs and represents a reconstruction of the interior of the Provincial Library of the late 19th - early 20th centuries and the exhibition 'A. S. Sukhanov's Study'. Visitors can learn about thematic exhibitions, the history of the collections' formation, and the activities of the first librarians. The showcases in the reading room display publications and museum items on topical subjects from rotating exhibition projects. The library's main pride is its unique collection, which comprises 55,000 storage units, of which over 35,000 (publications from the 17th - the first half of the 20th centuries) are classified as unique and rare. The collection is housed in three book depositories equipped with modern facilities. Scholars — historians, ethnographers, archaeologists — find here a wealth of material for their research on Siberia. Working conditions in the scientific library are comfortable for both visitors and staff.
