Exhibitions of the 'Soldiers of the Fatherland' Museum
About exhibition
The museum's exhibition is dedicated to the glorious pages of Irkutsk's military history, from the Patriotic War of 1812 to the fighting in Chechnya and the present day. Today the museum features the following exhibitions: · Sons of the Fatherland (Irkutsk residents in the wars of the 19th – early 20th centuries) · Pre‑war conflicts (Irkutsk and its residents in the 1920s–1930s) · Irkutsk residents at the front and in the rear (Irkutsk and its residents during the Great Patriotic War / World War II) · Saving life, giving hope (Irkutsk evacuation hospitals during the Great Patriotic War) · Irkutsk residents in the Afghan War (The War in Afghanistan 1979–1989) · 29th Guards Division of the Strategic Rocket Forces (RVSN) · Aviation Irkutsk (Irkutsk aircraft designers, history of the aircraft factory, 'Belaya' airbase, General V.M. Bezbokov) · 'We Don't Abandon Our Own' (Irkutsk participants in the special military operation, assistance from Irkutsk to SMO fighters). The 'Soldiers of the Fatherland' branch allows visitors to get closer to some exhibits—to hold them, take photos. This primarily applies to examples of small arms and artillery systems. The museum has several interactive zones: 'Dugout', 'Chairman's Executive Committee Office', 'Hospital Ward', 'Mortar position in the mountains', as well as an ejection seat where visitors can take souvenir photos.
