Exhibitions of the Metropolitan Chambers
About exhibition
The Metropolitan Chambers were built in the 1680s by Iona Sysoevich, the Metropolitan of Rostov, a renowned builder of the Rostov Kremlin. Today the building houses an exhibition of Old Russian art from the Yaroslavl Art Museum. On display are icons from the 13th–17th centuries, including a unique pre‑Mongol monument, works of the Yaroslavl icon‑painting school, and icons by Semyon Spiridonov of Kholmogory and Fyodor Zubov. The exhibition "Icons of the Petrine Period (1672–1725)" from the Yaroslavl Art Museum's collection presents 39 icons that are outstanding examples of Yaroslavl icon painting of that era. The exhibition includes signed and dated icons. Newly restored works are being exhibited for the first time.
